Live From the Nuclear Dungeon – August 20, 2015

Good morning, boys and girls! Today, I’m blogging from the bowels of Highland Park Hospital, where I’ve just been infused with radioactive glucose that is currently making its way through my body. After the glow juice takes a 45-minute-long journey through Debsville, I’ll get to take a nap in the PET scan machine while serenaded by Lucy Schwartz on CD via the boom box they have in the room. Hopefully, nothing will light up except for my brain and bladder – because they always light up. Despite not being cancer cells, they really like that glucose.

To prepare for today’s test, I had to eat an uber-low-carb dinner. I made salmon and spinach. I was excited to try a new recipe for herb baked fillets, which includes Panko breadcrumbs. Dumbass me forgot that the breadcrumbs were verboten until I took it out of the oven. I couldn’t really scrape the breadcrumbs off – they were pretty stuck on there. So I took my spinach and put it in an omelet instead. Hubs tells me the salmon was good. :/ Ok, now I’m really hungry – especially since I’ve been allowed nothing but water for 4 hours leading up to the test. Of course I skipped breakfast. I wasn’t going to lose precious hours of sleep to get up at 6am and eat a carb-free breakfast that would leave me hungry an hour later anyway. Why the Atkins diet? My blood sugar levels need to be pretty low before they inject me with all that extra special glucose. Joy.

So, here I sit. Then I’ll lie. Then I can eat and <<yawn>> caffeinate (soooo necessary right now). And, I just yawned from typing the word yawn. You know, the same way you yawn from seeing someone else yawn. There – I did it again. I bet you did too.

Original Comments from the CaringBridge Blog:

Damn it! You made me yawn.

—Jeannie Jordan, August 20, 2015

—Jodi McKee, August 20, 2015

hope that your PET is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! I had high carb for you this afternoon at Bakers Square. 😉
—Mary Schumann, August 20, 2015

Crossing my fingers & my toes for your lite brite event!
—Amber Youngman, August 20, 2015

I want you to glow but not from this. So if they can make it happen in a safe and healthy and non-cancer way,  I’m on board for that. 🙂
Eggs, man. Best low-carb thing on the planet.
Thinking of you, Glow Girl! xo

Here’s hoping that you only light up peoples’ world with your wit and humor and no internal pictures! Have a nice nap and enjoy your post photo session caffeine!
—Kris Baker, August 20, 2015

I just yawned too. Good luck and hope you are not sparkly today!!
—Amy Kingan, August 20, 2015

You always did LIGHT UP–
—jo Wilken, August 20, 2015

I totally just pictured that glo-worm stuffed toy they have for babies. You squeeze it and its butt glows. I hope nothing glows that isn’t supposed to.
